It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a winter holiday possession of a good number of associated festive treats, must leave a glut of leftovers.
Is that not how the saying goes?
Anyway, there were a great many more types of mince pie around, and I’d hate to leave any of them adrift, so please do enjoy the rest of them, and their associated character mascots, on this, the 12th Day of Christmas.
Marvel Characters As Mince Pies Vol 2.
NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS CLOCK: LOKI
It’s probably fitting, to be fair, that if one of the ‘most expensive and most absurdly extravagant’ varieties I bought this season went to Tony Stark, the other would go to Loki. Flashy, many-faced, and also there’s the pretty clock design on them, and Loki’s stuck with the TVA in the new D+ series, so: theme.
But the flavours; really. Carrot. Vine fruits. Carraway. Clementine. Cream Sherry. Smoky sugar. Like…get help.
But also, get more because they were weirdly delightful.
ORANGE JUNIPER: SAM WILSON
I’m bringing D+ in again with this deep-dive of a connection, but: fish? Is delightful with gin. Gin usually relied heavily on juniper. What did we see in the promo for The Falcon and The Winter Soldier?
WILSON FAMILY SEAFOOD.
Also, the design is kinda like a sunburst, and what’s more like sunshine than Sam Wilson’s smile, right?
HAZELNUT BAKLAVA: WANDA MAXIMOFF
Given that her native country is bordered by Slovakia and the Czech Republic, and baklava is native to the former Ottoman Empire, and the countries that came out of said Empire and a hop skip and a jump from Sokovia, I’m just guessing that Wanda has had some incredible baklava at more than one point in her life.
It was also super tasty, and Scarlet freaking Witch, most powerful of ALL, deserves nothing less.
DOUBLE STAR: CAROL DANVERS
Umm, it’s Carol? Stars? Sparklefists? TWO OF THEM?
Sorry. I sometimes get carried away when it comes to Carol Danvers (though admittedly I am much more about comics Carol than MCU Carol, but that’s neither here nor there). But seriously. My to-do list on my reminders app is just titled “🤜🏼✨💥✨🤛🏼” because…well.
DOUBLE STAR.
(I’ll stop. For now.)
SPICED RUM LATTICE: PETER PARKER
Lattices 1) look like webbing, a little, 2) can be climbed, and 3) are a type of configuration in physics, which was studied by Peter Parker.
So you see, this one is three times as fitting and is almost the same number as versions of Spider-Man films.
CLASSIC TREE: SCOTT LANG/GROOT
Choose your own adventure: Scott Lang, because they’re miniature;
Or Groot, because, well. It’s a bit on the nose, isn’t it?
PINEAPPLE COCONUT: PHIL COULSON
These fruits are inescapably tropical. All sunny skies and crystal blue waters. Island retreats, a frosty piña colada in hand. Very relaxing. Magical, even, wouldn’t you say?
It probably reminds Phil of T.A.H.I.T.I., is what I’m thinking.
PUFF PASTRY: NICK FURY
So, here’s my thinking: Colonel Nicholas Joseph Fury is a prickly badass, but he’s got a soft gooey human center that loves fluffy kitties (even if they’re actually dangerous aliens) and is a little precious and/or compulsive about how toast is sliced. He has layers. Like puff pastry!
And he’s a bit of a reverse puff mince pie, in this case, because the outside was soft and delightful, while the inside was bitter and almost inedible. Much like Nick: proceed with caution, and prepare for at least a few unpleasantries as a rule.
CLASSIC SNOWFLAKE: PEGGY CARTER
Oh Margaret Carter: that’s a classic dame right there, make no mistake. Red lips, coifed hair, somehow still pristine as a snowflake in the middle of a war. Where would we be without her (I mean, we’d probably not have had a Nazi organisation harboured in a US intelligence agency if she’d kicked Zola to the curb instead of keeping him on after Operation Paperclip, but that’s a different rant).
Point is, I love the Agent Carter version of Peggy with fierceness. The less I talk about MCU Peggy the better, so I won’t. But I wear her trademark Besame shade when I want to channel her take-no-shit attitude; when I want to make sure I’m 100% clear that I know my value.
And that’s more than worth being a classic.
(Also, she knows when a snack is in order, and wasn’t that the whole underlying point, here?)
