This week, Disneyland opens its much anticipated Star Wars-themed land, Galaxy’s Edge*. This begs the question, what are you going to wear? Are you planning a Star Wars Disneybound?
In this 2-part blog post, I’m getting you outfitted for your visit to the Black Spire Outpost in either Light Side style or Dark Side chic.
Galaxy’s Edge is meant to be an immersive experience. So when you visit, you feel like you’ve really landed on the planet of Batuu in a galaxy far, far away. With a Disneybound, you can join in the character fun without getting in trouble with Disney Parks’ no costume policy, which remains in effect even at this remote outpost.
I’m starting with Light Side style because Jedi and Rebel/Resistance-inspired looks have variety and can utilize readily available clothing. Not to mention, they’re comfortable! You’re still running around a theme park after all.
Jedi Apparel
Using Obi-Wan Kenobi as a baseline for the Jedi Look, I note the layers, the earth tones, the boots, and belt. The visual of the tabard in the front is also very Jedi to me. It’s why I think there was so much expectation about Rey having a connection to the Force before The Force Awakens was released. Her costume was very Jedi-reminiscent. For my Jedi Disneybound, Rey’s Scavenger costume was a big influence.
I wore a cropped white shirt under a tan jumpsuit. Besides the color, I picked this jumpsuit because the faux-wrap V-neck reminded me of the tabards on Rey’s costume. I accessorized with a brown belt, leather wrap bracelet, and the Po-Zu Rey boots.
Not comfortable with jumpsuits? Wear a tunic-length top with khaki, brown, or gray pants and riding boots. Add a duster/long cardigan to act as a pseudo-Jedi cloak. My look here is mostly a Rey Disneybound, but if I put on riding boots and a long cardigan, it would look more generically Jedi. I personally think layers push the Jedi aesthetic, so think of incorporating layers within similar earth-tones.
Rebel Scum
Disneybounding as a Rebel or member of the Resistance** is, I think, the simplest way to walk into Black Spire and look like you belong there. Rebel style is versatile and is the closest to looking like “regular” clothes already. Think about “adventurer” clothes or what you’d wear out camping, and that’s basically the Rebel aesthetic.
Like the Jedi, Rebels tend towards layers and neutral tones. Unlike the Jedi, their gear is both functional and personal, signifying things like where they’re from, their rank/role, and their personalities. This gives you a lot to work with in terms of designing your own look. For example, I like Jyn Erso’s gray scarf and fingerless gloves (mine are from Elhofferdesign), so I worked those elements into my Resistance outfit.
My foundation pieces are an olive green utility shirt and white tank paired with jeans. Next time, I’d swap my pants for something gray or khaki since we don’t often see so much blue on Resistance clothes. My belt was a lucky Target find from a few months back. With fanny packs and “belt bags” trendy again, it shouldn’t be too hard to find something with the right look.
Of course, you can always go in regular clothes. To me, comfort is key! I just don’t know what I’d say to a Stormtrooper if they questioned me about my “Kylo Ren is a Punk Bitch” shirt (from Jordandené)!***
Look out for my next post, which covers Dark Side chic. They may be bad, but the Sith, the Imperials, and the First Order have such dramatic fashion.
Are you excited about Galaxy’s Edge? What would you wear to visit?
*Galaxy's Edge opens at Disney World later this summer.
**The Resistance has Rebel Alliance roots and has become the new
Rebellion. So in this post, I refer to the style interchangeably.
***Tip in the comments: Disney will ask you to cover this shirt up because of the
b*tch part if they see it. So maybe opt for a "Never Tell Me The Odds" tee instead!

Giiirrrrlll. Always so FIERCE! All the fire emojis!!
Love it! Word of warning – if you wear the Jordandene Kylo Ren shirt to Disneyland, they *will* ask you to cover it up, and you will not be allowed to take photos with the Disney photographers if it’s visible.
I thought it would be risky to wear it to Disney, but I had no trouble on the day I wore it there. I suspect it’s because it’s a bit hard to read at first glance on the red. But this is a good tip!! Thank you!
Love it all! Great job! I can’t wait to go when it opens in Orlando!!
