With the return of spring comes the return of music festivals and the fashion that goes with it. Coachella just wrapped its second weekend, and I couldn’t help thinking about what I might have worn if I’d gone. Since I love making outfits geeky and since we’re in Avengers: Endgame mode, I styled an appropriately “festive” look.

Style Inspo: Retro Black Widow

My favorite parts of festival fashion are the Bohemian looks, bright colors, and fun accessories (like flower crowns) taken straight from the hippie days, but my personal fashion is also concerned with comfort and geekiness. Enter this Black Widow cropped tee from Forever 21.

For this outfit, I wanted to feature an original Avenger because Endgame marks the end of a long arc for them. Black Widow was the only female superhero we had in the MCU for a long time, so it felt right to honor her as we close the Infinity Saga. Finding this shirt made my sartorial ambitions possible.

The retro comic book panel and the neon colors won me over. I loved that I hadn’t seen anything that similar to it, too. Its mix of geek and hippie-inspo is exactly what I want in a festival outfit, and the T-shirt fit makes it a familiar wardrobe item to work with.

Festival Fashion x Geek Chic

Since the shirt is more cropped than I like, I wore a tank underneath and high-waisted leggings. If I had actually gone to a festival, I would’ve worn Blackmilk’s Sassy Nation Summer Bodysuit instead to make the look trendier and more breathable.

Making the rest of the outfit black lets the colorful shirt shine, and it’s a nod to Black Widow’s hero suit. The moto-detailing on the leggings adds an alternative vibe, so I built on that by accessorizing with a bandana. This festival staple is also functional because out in the desert, it shields your face from sand. Mine is from Calamityware and is patterned with dancing skeletons!

I finished off the look with red sunglasses, violet lipstick, and a faux-leather flower crown because Natasha Romanoff is both badass and feminine. Plus, nothing says festival fashion quite like a flower crown.

To test function, I wore this through a full day at Disneyland and DCA. It went through heat, water, and roller coaster wind and still looked good! So next time you think you can’t have it all fashion-wise, think again. You can indeed be comfortable, on trend, and geeky.

Have you mashed up geek fashion with other styles? Are you ready for Avengers: Endgame?
