I’ll admit it: I’m a bit of a hoarder when it comes to beauty products. My routines change frequently and I’m always looking for colorful new additions to my makeup collection. It certainly doesn’t help that I’m an impulse buyer and insist on having the newest thing as soon as it comes out.
But as products come and go, get tossed away and traded off, there are some that have earned a permanent place in my seemingly bottomless makeup bag. Here are my top 5 geeky beauty essentials!
Star Wars Tsum Tsum Lip Smackers
I hoard lip balms more than anything else. And as someone who has tried balms ranging from two to thirty dollars (I know, I know), I was pleasantly surprised at how well these five-dollar little guys work. I love the nostalgia of Lip Smackers and the amazingly sweet scents. They keep my lips moisturized all day and the packaging is almost too adorable. Plus, you have a collectible figurine of your favorite character once you’re finished with them!
LASplash Smitten Liptint Mousse Liquid Lipsticks
These liquid lipsticks were originally released as a Harry Potter-inspired line, with appropriately named shades such as Ravenclaw, Bellatrix, Spellbound, and Lovegood. Most of them have been renamed for legal reasons, but they’re still around and as powerful as ever. Seriously: this liquid lipstick will ruin all others for you. Its formula is unlike any I’ve ever tried, with a wear so long-lasting you can go an entire day without having to touch it up. The colors are also amazing and unique. I’m particularly fond of the rich emerald Nagini.
Eyeshadows by Shiro Cosmetics
I’ve written about Shiro’s gorgeous themed eyeshadows in the past and I don’t think I can recommend them enough. The colors are gorgeous and incredibly clever– note the earthy jewel tones swatched above from the #JustLegolasThings collection. The formula has lasted me many a night out and it’s all vegan and cruelty-free! Bonus: every order comes with candy and a free sample.
Nail wraps by Espionage Cosmetics
It’s no secret that we love Espionage and all their geeky products around here. Their nail wraps are so cute and easy– you just stick them onto your nail, file off the excess from the top, and paint over them with a clear topcoat and you’re ready to go! They’re great for those who don’t have the time (or money) for frequent nail appointments because they range from $7-$10 and last up to two weeks! You can pick them up in dozens of different designs, from 8-bit heart prints to officially licensed ones like Sonic the Hedgehog, The Wicked + The Divine, and Stardew Valley.
Hamilton-inspired perfumes from SoCo Fragrance
When I say these are essential, I mean it: I use them almost every day. I stumbled upon SoCo a few years ago when they were still a small Etsy shop. I was skeptical about buying fragrance online at first but they had an easy solution. For just a few dollars, I was able to purchase a 2 ml sample. Of course, I ended up falling in love with the rosy, Eliza Hamilton-inspired scent anyway and it quickly became my everyday perfume. Their spring collection features a fragrance called “You’ll Be Back”, which appropriately features notes of seawater, driftwood, and black tea. Needless to say, that was also an instant-buy.
