Through our Cosmetic Corner segment, I think it’s safe to say I’ve made one thing very clear: I really, really love makeup.
Obviously, I’m no Instagram-make-up-artist-level expert. BUT! I’m perfectly comfortable with that. It’s just fun— to play, to experiment, and to splurge in the name of self-care. (Thank god we have that as an excuse now to rationalize buyer’s remorse, right?)
Well, recently, I found my new favorite place to do that: Besame Cosmetics.
Founded in 2004, Bésame Cosmetics is a celebration of the very roots of the makeup industry.
Their vintage-inspired brand recreates classic luxury makeup from the 1920’s, 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s. It cherishes the history of the past’s sophisticated beauty routines. All products are made in the U.S. with natural ingredients and are cruelty-free.
Black Cake Mascara, $25.00
Bésame (Spanish for ‘kiss me’, FYI, which seems so fitting) is the perfect brand for lovers of all things makeup and history. Have you ever seen cake mascara? Did you even know mascara used to be sold solid and in a compact? Before I discovered Bésame, I didn’t either!
But, what they’re really known for is my favorite thing of all: lipstick!
Lipstick, $22.00
Bésame’s signature lipsticks are pigmented enough to be applied in one swipe. The formula has with a semi-matte finish enriched with squalene, vitamin C, and aloe. And if color replicas by decade aren’t enough to sell you on these, the packaging is a work of art in itself. Each lipstick is encased in a red and gold bullet, perfectly sized for travel, inspired by the tubes of the 1940’s.
And, because they obviously wouldn’t be on this blog without acknowledging some geekery, they’ve dropped two of the coolest collaborations ever this year.
7 Dwarfs Mini Lipstick Set, $35.00
To celebrate the 80th anniversary of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Bésame collaborated with Disney to create an exclusive collection with colors hand-selected and matched from the film’s original color palette provided by Disney’s Ink and Paint Department. You can indulge in everything from Snow White’s iconic red lip to a magic mirror of your very own.
Field Agent Lip Kit, $68.00
More recently, they released a project so near and dear to my heart that I bought it instantly. (With no hesitation, and only a little self-scolding about the price.) Three words: Agent. Carter. Lipsticks. And these aren’t just shades inspired by our favorite SSR agent. No, these are the actual colors she wore in the show.
Needless to say, I’ll be waiting by my mailbox until it arrives.
If you want the full scoop on this one, you’ll check back in a few weeks when this set gets an unboxing & Cosmetic Corner post of its own!
