Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo has easily become one of my favorite books. Though I was a bit late to the game, I became completely engrossed by the darkness and magic the story ensued. I find myself eagerly anticipating the sequel.
What is going to happen to Alex? And Darlington? Will Dawes finish her paper?
So many questions!
I found myself totally obsessed with Alex. The Latina badass with sleeves fulls of tattoos had me hooked the more I read on. For a while, it felt like I couldn’t put the book down. It was as though I myself was magically bound to it.
My love for the tattoos that appear (and are hidden) throughout the story and the serpents on Alex’s arms heavily inspired the look of this Ninth House outfit.
The Look
To channel Alex, I decided to adorn some snakes. I wore this sheer long-sleeved top from BlackMilk Clothing that had beautiful, velvet snakes all over. The top was from the 2020 Halloween collection and has sold out since. I wore a black bralette underneath to add an extra level of “edge” that I am sure Alex would appreciate.
I really wasn’t sure what kind of bottoms to wear with this, but Alex wear black jeans a number of times throughout the novel, so I figured my best pair of high-waisted would do the trick.
As for accessories, this top looks best with some kind of choker or short necklace, so I wore this one. The choker is thick, black, and velvety, just like the snakes on the top. I also wore these handing earrings that are silver snakes that I borrowed from my mother’s jewelry drawer the last time I visited home. I also threw on my Milky Way bracelet in honor of Alex’s birth name, Galaxy.
This book has jumped into my “top five” with ease, and I find myself thinking of Alex, Yale, and all the ghosts I simply cannot see, ever since I closed the book.
