Step 1 to creating a look: Become Obsessed

It has been about a month now since Captain Marvel hit theaters, and I have increasingly grown to love this character more and more with each day. Everything from her awkward and witty humor to her very human finesse of always getting back up again. I felt like I easily saw myself in her, which hasn’t really happened with a super hero character on the big screen. Sure, I connect and relate. But there were moments that I felt like Carol WAS me.

So naturally, I purchased all her stuff at my job the next day.

For those that don’t know, I work at BoxLunch gifts. It’s a hard place to work as a geek due to the constant cries of pain my wallet makes every time we get new shipment. But the morning after I saw the movie, I instantly decided I’m buying merch.

Step 2: Choosing your weapons

It was time to decide which item was I going to get. We had a lot in store, even some from HerUniverse. But none of them really read as me, until I saw this one. This shirt is part of a wider collection of Marvel shirts. I’ve seen one of almost every character, ranging from Black Panther to Thanos himself.

But this one stuck out to me. It was a perfect shade of blue. The red Marvel logo contrasted so well, and our Captain looked beautiful AND powerful.

Bonus: it was simple enough I could fit it into a number of different looks.

Next was the accessories.

Unlike most fashion bloggers, I fail in this department. I’m not one for that much jewelry, and I’m not huge into bags. However, I like to rock some hats and outerwear to make up for it.

I got myself a Captain Marvel dad hat. In the front , it’s a deep red with just the logo. On the back, there is a simply stitched “Captain Marvel” in gold lettering. It matches the red on the shirt and is a staple to the favorite “incognito Marvel characters” aesthetic that we all love.

Due to her amazing ’90s grunge aesthetic, I also wanted to add in this oversized white, black, and grey flannel to really bring the look together. Tie it at the waist or wear it on!

Shoes were the final piece of the puzzle.

Originally I was going to go with a pair of active sneakers to make this look a bit more sporty, but in the last moment I decided to bust out a pair of my Dr Martens.

I have three pairs of these bad boys, but I decided the worn brown leather would look the best for this combo. And I couldn’t be happier with my choice. These became a big staple in the grunge look, and I could easily see Carol rocking a pair of these in her free time away from defending the universe.

Step 3: Putting it all together, Becoming Carol

Brie Larson killed it as Carol Danvers. She far exceeded my expectations of her. Which is honestly such a Carol thing to do. She was funny, awkward, and normal, but strong, brave, and loving at the same time. She is how I strive to be on the daily and how I hope to be in a community.

I can’t wait to see her in Endgame and how she is going to help our mighty heroes in the ultimate fight. I also cant wait to see her kick Thanos’s butt.

Did you love Captain Marvel’s grunge look as much as I did? And what will you be wearing to Endgame? We only have to wait a few more weeks!
