Do you want to know the most difficult thing about being in the geek community? Everyone is so. Damn. Talented. And when a bunch of talented people hone their craft and flock to places to sell it, well, let’s just say it takes quite the toll on my wallet. Linda Heredia of 1138 Clothing is one of those people.

1138 Clothing’s Los Angeles-based Etsy shop opened summer 2011 as a way to share vintage thrift shop finds around the world. But, in just a year, Linda’s passion for all things geeky inspired her to start creating clothing of her own, starting with corsets and eventually moving to their signature circle skirts. Today, 1138’s shop carries over 90 items, from tie tops, to berets, to a Star Wars-inspired formal dresses. The coolest part? Everything is handmade.

Let’s take a look at some of the awesome handmade clothes by 1138, shall we?

Star Wars Comic Crop Top, $40.00+

1138 Clothing

I love everything about these, from the vintage comic book print to the bustier cut to the tie-back. These fun, funky crop tops are 100% cotton and come in two sizes (S-L and XL-2XL), but the best part of selling handmade items is that you can order custom sizes! As someone who doesn’t wear a standard size, this made me very, very happy.

Serpent Beret, $22.50

1138 Clothing

What is it about berets that makes your outfit so effortlessly Parisian chic the second you throw one on? 1138 carries a beret for every house mascot, but my Slytherin pride obviously had to feature the serpent. I think I speak for everyone when I say Hogwarts uniforms would have been way cuter if they featured these. (Plus, they’re made of a wool blend, so bonus points for keeping you extra toasty in the winter!)

Space Smuggler Circle Skirt, $60.00+

1138 Clothing

As I said before, these geeky-inspired circle skirts seem to be a staple in the 1138 Clothing shop. And, honestly, why wouldn’t they be? They’re adorable and flowy, perfect to twirl in, and look good on everyone. I’m particularly fond of this Han Solo-inspired one that features the Corellian Bloodstripe down the side. You can never go wrong with something cute and subtly geeky.

White Book Star Cardigan, $55.00

1138 Clothing

Another Harry Potter-inspired piece, yes, but this one was too good to pass up. This cropped cardigan is a nod to 1138’s vintage roots and features those oh-so-familiar little star clusters that any Potter fan will recognize instantly. Once again, it’s a perfectly subtle geeky piece of clothing and would make an adorable addition to any outfit.
