I don’t know about you guys, but every so often a stumble across a shop or brand and stare wide-eyed at their homepage with a gut feeling that screams, “I think this was made for me.” That’s exactly how I felt when I discovered Utinni Bikini last year.
As I’ve grown, my relationship with my body has changed. S
o, naturally, my relationship with swimsuits has, too. Gone are the days I want to hide under a t-shirt and a pair of ill-fitting boardshorts. (God, remember when the hot thing was to wear long boardshorts with a bikini top? Me neither— blocked it from my memory. The early 2000’s were a rough time for fashion.) Now, I want to show off and look cute while soaking up the sun and sand. And if it’s so easy to incorporate some subtle geekiness into my everyday wardrobe, then why can’t I with swimwear, too?
Before Utinni Bikini, the only geeky swimsuits I’d seen were the ones with superhero logos on them from Hot Topic. Those options felt like the equivalent of those boxy graphic tees that were our only choice before “geek chic” truly became a thing. If either of those things work for you, then that’s awesome! But, they still left me craving something a bit more stylish. (And even if I wanted to settle for those swimsuits, I couldn’t. Because I can guarantee you they’re not producing a bikini in my size that doesn’t cover my stomach.)
UB is a game-changer on all fronts. Catch me in an actual bikini that comes in adorable and colorful Star Wars-themed patterns AND in an inclusive size range of XS-3XL.
Boba Fett Tropical Print Bikini, $58.50+
You can find plenty of obvious graphic prints in their shop. But, I’m a fan of the ones that are so subtle you have to look twice. Look really closely at the swimsuit pictured above. At first glance, it looks like a pretty standard tropical print, right? But upon further inspection, you’ll find tiny Boba Fetts and mythosaur skulls hidden within it.
The more modest beachgoer can enjoy Utinni Bikini’s geeky prints, too. They also offer a one-piece option with a halter tie, sweetheart neckline, and ruched sides that is adorably retro-chic.
Not ready to take the dive into geek chic swimwear, pun fully intended?
You can still jump on the Utinni Bikini bandwagon. Their shop is also fully equipped with dresses, skirts, enamel pins and more. Take a look at some of my favorite non-swimsuit pieces below!
I am obsessed with this print, these colors, everything. I’ll take it on every item it comes in, please and thank you. Their skater dresses go up to 5XL, which is also awesome!
I’m a sucker for pins and I’ve always been very upfront about that. These are impossible to pass up, with their adorable candy heart-style design, glitter (which, let’s be real, always makes a pin a million times better), and rose gold metal.
Stormtrooper Open Cardigan, $74.99
Kimono-style cardigans are such a fun, easy, and comfy way to accessorize. What I love about this one is that you actually have a choice between three fabrics– a sheer chiffon, a lightweight, silky knit, or a soft and stretchy jersey. (I personally would opt for the chiffon– imagine how cool that rainbow print would be on a sheer fabric!)
