It’s been said again and again since the very beginning of Scandal, but I’m here to reiterate it: there is no television character more polished than Olivia Pope.

I haven’t paid enough respect to styles like Olivia’s on this segment, but professional power dressing so often falls flat and drab, especially on TV. Olivia isn’t an exception. She’s the exception. In the seven seasons Scandal has been on the air, she’s completely redefined workplace wear. And hasn’t had a single off day doing it.

From the very beginning, her style has always been modern. She’s refined, and diplomatic, as a political powerhouse such as herself should be. Structured but never too stiff, her outerwear alone pushes all architectural integrity you ever thought was possible in clothing construction.

Her wardrobe mainly consists of a muted color palette that, with outfits that you know are perfectly tailored to her, redefine the meaning of sleek. Neutrals will never go out of style, even in something as seemingly dated as elbow-length gloves. I don’t think I’ve ever seen anyone in a pair of those outside Disney World, but she’s clearly rocking them without a care.

(But even she can’t deny a pop of color can go a long way.)

And of course, anyone with a swanky D.C. job like hers should obviously have a killer selection of formalwear. Spoiler alert: she does.

Catch Scandal in its final season Thursdays at 10 on ABC, or catch up on Hulu now.
