I’m not gonna lie: some of the summer 2018 trends have me wondering what year we’re in. And while some are a little wacky, there are still so many I can’t wait to incorporate into my summer wardrobe. Here are some tips on how to style those trends for the geek girl in all of us this season!
The LWD
Obviously, the little black dress is a year-round essential, but summer would be nothing without the little white dress. They’re great for any warm-weather day and always perfectly breezy to keep you cool. Plus, they’re the absolute best way to show off your summer tan!
How to geek it up: Do you have an ever-growing enamel pin collection like myself? A splash of geeky color can make the perfect contrast on the collar of a crisp, white, cotton shirtdress. I don’t know about you, but that sounds exactly like what I want to live in this summer.
Clear handbags
I know, I know. I was as surprised to see this trend gaining traction as you were, but transparent bags, not unlike those clear PVC totes your mom carried to the beach all those years ago, seem to pop up, again and again, every few years. Their appearance on the SS ’18 runways this year solidified their place in our closets this season.
How to geek it up: Think of all the amazing wallets you’ve seen from big brands like ThinkGeek and Loungefly, or even handmade ones from sellers on Etsy. Now think of how much any of those would stand out in one of these transparent essentials. (Or how much joy spotting a little Baby Groot coin purse would bring almost every passerby.)
Silky midi skirts
I love the lightweight, breezy feeling of silk anything. I love the way midi-length skirts easily add an extra feminine oomph to any look. Needless to say, I love everything about this trend. Making a commitment to something so seemingly dressy may seem damning, but I promise you it’s not that intimidating. Dressing down is easier than you think.
How to geek it up: What better way is there to do that than with your favorite subtly geeky tee and your brightest white sneakers? Now, I’m not saying it has to be from Jordandené, but we promise you unlimited brownie points if it is.
